Who is The Honest Virgin?

I'm Shanisha, 28 year-old-virgin (trying hang this title up soon, LOL). I write about what people are scared to say in pop culture and the church. And I value honesty, tremendously. I started The Honest Virgin because virginity (or lack thereof), sexuality, womanhood and all things in between are rarely talked about or discussed in unhealthy ways. Thus, so many women like me are hugely misguided. What we learn from media, pop culture and our best-fran is completely broken and just plain wrong. So, in this small corner of the web, you'll find honest stories, spoken word poetry, and essays from someone who gets it in hopes that you too can find healthy expectations in relationships. I advocate for purity and holiness in all things.

What to expect?

I write from the intersectionality of black and female. I have always been true to myself and despise surface level thinking and relationships. I take observations about the world around me and put words to my frustrations. I don’t have everything right (because ya’ girl ain’t perfect) but, what I do have, I give to you. I love Jesus a lot and I don’t mind pitting the hard questions about life up against what the Bible says about it.

I write for black women who feel unseen or whose voice has been silenced. You need not be a virgin to subscribe to the newsletter, just have an open mind.
